In 1982, the Solbadhotel was opened, a significant moment made possible by the Zeller construction company, managed by Daniel Eschmann's grandfather (member of the Hauenstein Group's Executive Board), and Mr. Henziros, the founder of the Jura Niederbuchsiten company. This new hotel promised to be a place of rest and relaxation.
In 1998, the Solbadhotel encountered challenges when it was taken over by Walter Hauenstein after the previous owners declared bankruptcy. Walter Hauenstein recognized the hotel's potential and began extensive renovations and extensions to the wellness facilities. In April of that year, the hotel reopened after modernization, radiating in renewed splendor. Since then, the Solbadhotel has been part of Hauenstein Hotels.
In June 2000, a young family moved to Sigriswil: Luzia and Herbert Wicki. Walter Hauenstein hired the couple as hosts for the Solbadhotel. They revitalized the business with a fresh perspective and steered it towards success.
The first renovation phase of the wellness facilities followed in 2003, when the small "Saunadörfli" was added. This expansion was an important step in establishing the Solbadhotel as a wellness resort in the region.
On the 50th anniversary of the company, Peter Hauenstein, son of Walter Hauenstein, officially took over as the head of the Hauenstein Group.
In 2008, the Solbadhotel was further expanded with the construction of the "Panoramahaus", featuring hotel rooms and a seminar area. This building not only offers a spectacular view but also extends the hotel's range of services.
Extensive renovation was done in 2009, modernizing all rooms in the main building and expanding the wellness area. A small sauna village with outdoor sauna, hammam, relaxation room, fitness room, Private Spa and a massage and beauty studio were added.
The outdoor whirlpool was constructed, providing guests another opportunity to relax while taking in the breathtaking surroundings.
The wardrobe section of the wellness area was renovated and the sauna area was further expanded to accomodate the growing demand from guests.
In 2019, an eco-friendly pellet heating system replaced the existing oil heating system. This covered 96% of the energy requirement through renewable energy. Heating oil is now used only during peak times. As a result of this investment, around 430 tons of CO2 are saved annually.
At the beginning of November 2020, Peter Hauenstein handed over the operational management of the Hauenstein Group to his twin daughters Andrea and Nathalie Hauenstein and Daniel Eschmann. This means that the Group is now managed by the 3rd generation of the family. The company is 100% family-owned.
The years 2020 and 2021 were marked by government-mandated shutdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to its association with the Hauenstein Group, the Solbadhotel managed to remain operational throughout the crisis, preserving all jobs. Despite the crisis, the Solbadhotel experienced high demand, highligting the popularity and quality of its offerings.
Another important milestone: the kitchen underwent extensive renovation, and the wine cellar, lobby and bar have been revitalized. Significant investments were also made in the hotel and saltwater pool technology. With more than CHF 2.5 million invested, the Solbadhotel has been set for the future.
The former Carnozet has been extended and reopened under the name Waldstube. A cozy parlor that invites you to linger. The well-known and popular bathing and fondue party has also been relaunched.
